University Registrar and Director for Student Affairs office of Technology Elias Lopez

What are your roles and responsibilities as university registrar and director for Student Affairs Office of Technology?

I oversee two departments. One of them is the Office of the University Registrar, where we process 40-50,000 transcripts a year for students, print all diplomas, manage 128 general assignment classrooms, process readmission forms and petitions, determine residency status for tuition purposes, grade changes, and much, much more. In short we support the teaching mission of the university.

On the student technology information side…the IT side, we manage the myUCDavis portal, schedule builder, the online advising tools, curriculum approval, and many other services.

The staff in these two departments are just amazing and I feel fortunate to be working for them.

How do you spend your free time?

My favorite thing to do is to go out on a date with my wife. When my daughter is in town we watch action movies.

If you had one superpower, what would it be?

The ability to make others happy. I think there is so much stress in everyone’s life…if I can put a smile on someone’s face…that makes me happy.

What is your guilty pleasure?

I love food. Not sure if that counts but trying different food is always exciting.

Tell us one secret that no one knows about you?

I used to be able to do the moonwalk! I don’t know if I can do it anymore. (laughs).

If you could give student one advice, what would it be?

Spend a lot of time at the library studying. If you spend 6 hours studying, you are going to succeed no matter what you do.
